TuSimple to Develop “The Three-Body Problem” Animation and Game, But Won’t Abandon Autonomous Driving

The autonomous driving company, TuSimple, announced on Thursday that it has entered into a partnership with Shanghai SanTi Animation Co., Ltd. to jointly develop the first full-length animated film and video game based on the internationally renowned sci-fi novel series “The Three-Body Problem” created by Liu Cixin.

In addition, TuSimple officially announced its entry into the field of generative AI applications. The new “Generative AI” business unit has been established and has received unanimous approval from the group’s board of directors. This cooperation marks TuSimple’s acquisition of the adaptation authorization from the IP rights holder of “The Three-Body Problem.” The new business will leverage TuSimple’s technical accumulation in the field of autonomous driving to focus on generative AI applications in the media and gaming sectors.

Lv Cheng, President and CEO of TuSimple, said in the announcement: “The globally acclaimed ‘Three-Body’ series of novels provides an excellent showcase for our developed generative AI technology, which will pave the way for the commercialization of new technologies. We look forward to working with many top creative talents to jointly create a narrative work of profound influence. Our goal is to use generative AI technology to amplify human creativity, help content creators shorten development cycles, and solve industry challenges such as lengthy project cycles.”

“Since its inception, TuSimple has been committed to solving practical problems with innovative methods. Today, as the company opens a new path in the field of generative AI applications, our commitment remains the same. In addition, the company has no plans to exit the transportation industry. We will continue to promote the commercialization of autonomous driving technology through technical cooperation and licensing,” Lv Cheng concluded.

TuSimple is headquartered in San Diego, USA, and went public on NASDAQ in 2021. According to a resolution passed by the board of directors, the company plans to completely separate its larger US business from the truck projects operating in China and Japan. The company emphasizes that if it ultimately sells its US business, TuSimple will continue to be a global L4 autonomous driving technology company, paying more attention to the Asia-Pacific region and other major global markets.
