U.S. Supreme Court is Skeptical of Bidens Workplace Vaccine Rule

The Supreme Court’s majority seemed skeptical of the Biden administration’s authority to impose a vaccine-or-testing mandate on companies with 100 or more employees. The court, during arguments on Friday, seemed more open to a separate vaccine mandate for most health care workers. The outcome at the high court probably will determine the fate of vaccine requirements affecting more than 80 million people. (The Associated Press)

New Jersey Scraps ‘Under the Hood’ Testing to Attract More School Bus Drivers
Wannabe school bus drivers in New Jersey, for at least the next couple of months, won’t have to be mechanical experts in order to secure a license. To alleviate a shortage of school bus drivers nationwide, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is allowing states to waive the portion of the licensing process that asks applicants to identify “under the hood” engine parts. Through March, New Jersey applicants for school bus driver licensing will be able to skip that part of the exam, the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission said. Applicants will still be required to pass all of the safety elements of the exam. (New Jersey 101.5)

N.J. Prisons Deal with Staff Shortages and Inmate Restrictions as COVID-19 Spreads Anew
About 1,600 of the 7,300 staffers with the state Department of Corrections were out because of COVID-19 in December, and 450 tested positive the first week of the year, the state Department of Corrections reported . More than 6,700 inmates have tested positive since the pandemic started, with 28% – almost 1,900 inmates – occurring since the omicron surge started last month, according to department data. (New Jersey Monitor)
