Up Peru! Women's Hockey Team won the Pan American Challenge title

The Peruvian National Team of Women’s Hockey brings a new joy to Peruvian sport, after obtaining the championship in the Pan American Challenge 2021 that was held in our capital. After a close match against Trinidad and Tobago, the national team finally won with a score of 2-0.

Despite the fact that The ‘Blanquirrojo’ team was home to the Pan-American Complex of Villa María del Triunfo, there was not much favoritism against their rival on duty due to the recent confrontation they had. In the initial stage, the Trinidadians had won 1-0 by a score by Brianna Govia.

However, the Peruvian hockey team came out without pressure and a lot of tranquility, managing to take a comfortable advantage: Solange Alonso (26 ′) and Marina Montes (44 ′) scored and headed the victory. In the remaining time, they calmly controlled and took advantage of the rival’s desperation.

The acceleration of the game in search of the tie by Trinidad and Tobago caused Avion Ashton received a yellow card, while Amanda George and Giann Sealy received a green warning. The Peruvian triumph was consummated and they not only won the 2021 Pan American Challenges, but also secured their qualification for the 2022 Pan American Cup, which will be held in Chile.

Who made up the women’s hockey team?

The technical team led by Patricio Martínez was working for some months to find the ideal team that can represent Peru in the contest that took place at the headquarters of Villa María del Triunfo. The members who managed to obtain the first place were:

Xiomara Bellina (goalkeeper), Mikaela Tannert (goalkeeper), Camila Levaggi, Solange Alonso, Samar Mubarak, Gretell Mejía, Alexandra Castro, Marina Montes, Nicole Cueva, Daniela Ramírez, Geraldine Quino, Camila Méndez (captain), Paloma Larrañaga, María Jiménez, Ana Moccagatta, Victoria Montes, Fabiana Arano and Renata Sangio.
