Italy was hit by strong storms, and heavy rains and hail were recorded in the Sicilian city of Catania on Tuesday, with local authorities talking about a “tornado”, reports dpa.
Several people were injured, but none needed hospitalization, according to ANSA news agency. Homes and shops were affected by the storm, which uprooted trees and closed roads.
Four planes were also redirected to other airports. Residents of the town on Mount Etna have been advised to stay in their homes.
In the Liguria region, heavy rainfall has fallen. on Monday and Tuesday they caused the rivers to swell. A small bridge collapsed and ten families were evacuated by rescue teams, the Italian press reported.
