Smokestacks, cannibals, but also tear gas. Tens of thousands of protesters sparked a storm in Vienna

A total of 20 protests were reported in the Austrian capital. According to official reports, a total of 40,000 demonstrators took part in them.

Austria adopted a severe lockdown just shortly before Christmas. Now that the number of infected is rising again, they are introducing another wave of measures.

At a time when omikrom is proving to be a less dangerous variant of coronavirus, it is more difficult for the Austrian government to defend compulsory vaccination.

More than 1000 police officers from all over Austria supervised the order. Two were injured, detained several protesters.
