The global line of the Volkswagen brand already includes more than 20 crossovers, but soon another SUV model will join this already wide list, which will be available as an analogue of the Touareg. The new mid-size German crossover is undergoing pre-final tests.
The car does not yet have an official name, but camouflaged prototypes are increasingly common on public roads, which suggests a quick premiere.
According to unofficial information, the length of the new VW crossover will be 4700 – 4800 mm. The model will be based on the MQB modular platform with a transverse arrangement of the power unit.
Frankly speaking, Volkswagen is preparing a simple and inexpensive SUV, which will be a classmate of the Tuareg. In China, the latter is considered an image model and comes from Europe, which is directly reflected in its final price.
As for the new crossover, it is going to be released where it is sold – in the “Celestial” at the joint venture FAW-Volkswagen.
The technical characteristics of the novelty are still kept secret, but given the platform to predict its line of engines is easy. The car will be equipped with petrol 2- and 2.5-liter gasoline “supercharged” engines. And the latter is already used on local versions of SUVs Teramont and Talagon.
Budget budget analogue Volkswagen Touareg should go on sale in China in 2022.
