However, Volkswagen was the most successful in China last year. Although it recorded a year-on-year decline of 14.8 percent, it delivered almost 2.5 million cars to the locals, the most of all the monitored markets. Another place where the carmaker managed to deliver more than a million vehicles was Western Europe, where sales fell by 5.3 percent.
Electric cars are moving
Volkswagen’s plug-in hybrids delivered 106,000 purely electric models last year, 263,000 purely electric models, a year-on-year increase of 97 percent. The total number of 369 thousand electrified models delivered represents approximately 7.5% of all globally delivered cars. In Europe alone, the share of delivered electric vehicles is 19.3 percent, in the home Germany, even one in four cars sold was electrified.
