The young Duke Blue Devils are still rounding into form late in the season. After beating Miami in the ACC Tournament, Paolo Banchero wants another shot at UNC.
The Blue Devils have heard a lot of chatter down Tobacco Road in Chapel Hill’s direction since UNC defeated Duke in Mike Krzyzewski’s final home game. Duke rolled out the red carpet for Coach K, expecting a victory as the Blue Devils are well en route to another No. 1 seed.
Instead, the tournament-bound Tar Heels revealed they also had plenty to play for, serving as spoiler. Former Heels players took to social media to take postgame shots at Duke, as well, and a Blue Devils assistant coach refused to shake Hubert Davis’ hand.
Safe to say, there would be plenty of fireworks if the rivals met up with very little time gone by since that March 5 matchup.
Paolo Banchero challenges UNC, wants a rematch
Banchero was one of Duke’s top-rated freshman entering the season, and he has delivered so far this year. The Seattle native has averaged 16.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game with Duke. In the loss to UNC, Banchero played relatively well, scoring 23 points with five rebounds and just as many helpers.
After defeating Miami to advance in the ACC Tournament, Banchero challenged UNC to a rematch.
Now, whether America gets that rematch will depend on whether North Carolina can take down Virginia Tech. But if so, all eyes will be on Barclays Center for some fireworks in that one.
