Captain Wayne Hasson has been posthumously honored with the Lifetime Explorer Award by the Sea of Change Foundation.
Captain Hasson had an illustrious career, which included stints at the first captain of the Cayman Aggressor, one of the first dive liveaboards, as well as serving as a board member of the Sea of Change Foundation.
Aside from his numerous diving activities, Captain Hasson served in the US Marine Corps for eight years, from 1970 to 1978. During his time, he served in the Far East as well as aboard the USS Okinawa during the evacuation of Saigon.
Commenting about the award, Chairman of the Board of the foundation and CEO Wayne Brown stated:
“Wayne truly embodied the spirit of this award in that his life’s work was based on exploring the world’s oceans for divers and sharing his knowledge of the ocean with adults and children alike. His love of exploration continues to guide us every day.”
The Lifetime Explorer Award was presented by Sea of Change Foundation board members to Captain Hasson’s widow Anne, who is also a board member. She stated:
“What an honor and wonderful way to remember Wayne’s legacy. I’m grateful and know that this would make him smile. On his behalf, thank you all very much.”
