WB & Reeves Already Talking “The Batman 2” ?

With only a week to go before the global release, director Matt Reeves has revealed that early talks regarding a sequel to “The Batman” are already in progress.

Appearing at the London premiere of the film, Reeves spoke with outlet The Independent about the movie when he revealed that preliminary discussion of another has already happened and is separate from the already announced HBO Max streaming series tie-ins. Reeves says:

“I really believe in what we’ve done and I’d be excited to tell more stories… We are already telling other stories in the streaming space, we’re doing stuff on HBO Max, we’re doing a Penguin show with Colin [Farrell], which is gonna be super cool. And we’re working on some other stuff too but we have started talking about another movie.”

In separate interviews recently, he’s discussed a few other things about the movie. First up he told Den of Geek the project was always envisioned as a PG-13 film so don’t expect an unrated cut:

“There isn’t some special cut of this movie where it’s like, ‘Oh yeah, here’s the R rating that you’ve been desperately wanting.’ I didn’t have to suddenly start drastically cutting the movie or anything like that.”

He also tells EW that the first film stands very much on its own and does not serve as mere setup for the next:

“You don’t do a story and go, ‘This is Chapter 1’ because you might not get to do Chapter 2. So, the story had to stand on its own.”

He also tells the outlet he borrowed influences from Hitchcock and “Chinatown” and so Batman or Bruce “is in almost every scene in the movie” with the story wedded to his point of view and experience.

“The Batman” will hit cinemas on March 4th.
