GloRilla Gives Back To Her Alma Mater & Shares Inspiring Words To Students

According to WREG, GloRilla surprised the students at Westside Middle School in the Frayser neighborhood of Memphis, Tennessee, on Tuesday, November 14.

Not only did the 24-year-old rapper arrive with a $20,000 check in hand. However, she also dropped gems for Westside students.

“To chase your dreams, whatever you want to do is possible. I’m living proof because I came from this exact neighborhood, this exact school,” GloRilla told WREG reporters. “And whatever you want to do, you can do it. Manifest and actually work to achieve it.”

The outlet adds that GloRilla’s $20,000 donation will support the middle school’s performing arts, or fine arts, program.

Dr. Rodney Peterson, the Principal of Westside Middle School, credited the rapper for inspiring his “work” and serving as an example that “dreams can come to fruition.”

“GloRilla is why I got into this work years ago. I wanted to be a conduit and bridge builder for young people to dream and know that those dreams can come to fruition if they believed in it and put in the work,” Peterson told WREG. “Because she is the true epitome of a Westside Wildcat, with this donation, we can help continue the legacy of empowering young Wildcats to be world changers.”

The Rapper Previously Donated To Her Former High School

According to the outlet, GloRilla also gave back to another school in Frayer last year — her former high school, Martin Luther King College Prep. The rapper reportedly donated $25,000 to support the “senior class and the arts and music program.”

At the time, GloRilla shared that she felt “blessed” to give back and happy that she could serve as a positive example to students.

“I want them to be able to know that anything they put they mind to is possible. Long as they got a dream, then you gotta reach for the stars,” the rapper told Memphis Commercial Appeal at the time. “It feels real good to be able to have a platform and be able to come in and help students that come from where I came from.”

Additionally, the rapper documented her gracious donation with a video shared on Instagram.

Memphis Commercial Appeal notes that GloRilla attended Westside Middle School and Martin Luther King College Prep. Then, the rapper ultimately graduated from Melrose High School.

GloRilla’s $20K Donation Arrives Amid Her Reflecting On Her Success

GloRilla’s gracious donation to her middle school arrives amid her reflection on the past year. Two days before her $20,000 donation, the 24-year-old shared an Instagram post reflecting on her accomplishments since her debut album, ‘Anyways, Life’s Great…,’ released on November 11, 2022.
