Weekly poll: Samsung Galaxy A15, A15 5G and A25 are here for your approval

They are not glamorous, but they are bound to be one of the best-selling phones of 2024 – Samsung’s Galaxy A15, A15 5G and A25 arrived earlier this week and they are three variations on the same theme. That theme is a 6.5” FHD+ Super AMOLED display, 50MP main camera and a 5,000mAh battery with 25W wired charging.

Weekly poll: Samsung Galaxy A15, A15 5G and A25 are here for your approval

The Samsung Galaxy A25 is the leader of the pack. It has a 120Hz display, OIS for its main camera and a better 8MP ultra wide, plus stereo speakers. And it is powered by the Exynos 1280 chipset. To put things in perspective, here is the A25 compared to the A34, one of the most popular mid-rangers of this year. The A34 is better, certainly, with features like an IP67 rating, but the A25 comes surprisingly close.

Samsung only launched the new trio in Vietnam, so those are the prices we have to work with. The Galaxy A25 sells for VND 6,600,000, while the A34 had an MSRP of VND 8,500,000. The A34 has fallen in price since it launched, of course, but still it is around 30% more expensive than the A25 in MSRP terms.

The Samsung Galaxy A15 5G scales things back – 90Hz refresh rate for the display, no OIS for the main camera and 5MP sensor for the ultra wide and it only has a single speaker. The most crucial downgrade is the Dimensity 6100+ chipset. Despite its name, this is just a warmed over Dimensity 810.

It’s not a bad chip and the Galaxy A15 5G is not a bad phone, but this is either a case of blatant anchor pricing or Samsung really just missed the mark. The A15 5G is priced at VND 6,300,000, a mere 5% discount from the A25.

One more to cover before we get to the voting. The Samsung Galaxy A15 is exactly the same phone as the A15 5G apart from switching to the Helio G99 chipset, which limits it to 4G connectivity. It comes with a much better discount, though, it is VND 5,000,000 or around 25% less than the A25. How much is 5G really worth?

Okay, time to vote. First, the Galaxy A25 – would this be the breakaway hit or has Samsung misread the demands of the entry-level market?

Next up, the Galaxy A15 5G – a total dud or is there promise in this device?

Finally, the Galaxy A15, the 4G one. The one to have if you can’t afford the A25 or a dud as well?
