Wendell Pierce is set to star as Perry White in James Gunn’s ‘Superman’.
The ‘Wire’ actor will play The Daily Planet editor-in-chief, alongside David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Nicholas Hoult will also star in the movie as villain Lex Luthor.
Perry White is an important part in the movie and the comics, serving as the boss to both Kent and Lane.
Jackie Cooper took on the role in the Christopher Reeves films, with Frank Langella in Bryan Singe’s ‘Superman Returns’ and Laurence Fishburne in Zach Snyder’s series of ‘Superman’ movies, starring Henry Cavill.
Gunn’s ‘Superman’ will be the first solo Superman project in more than a decade following 2013’s Man of Steel.
The cast includes Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Sara Sampaio (Eve Teschmacher), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Terence Rosemore (Otis), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner) and María Gabriela de Faría (The Engineer).
Meanwhile, last month Gunn announced a title change for ‘Superman: Legacy’.
The 57-year-old filmmaker was “overjoyed” to have started filming on the project, which will kick off a reboot of the DC Universe under the guidance of him and Peter Safran, in February and used the occasion to reveal the movie will now simply be titled ‘Superman’.
Alongside a photo of what appeared to be a close-up of the Superman suit, he wrote on Instagram: “Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday.
“When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film ‘Superman: Legacy.’ By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN. Making our way to you July 2025.(sic)”
