Migraine are a health problem that has not yet been sufficiently researched. For that reason, scientists have not yet been able to understand exactly what affects these headaches. However, previous research has shown that some factors affect the occurrence of migraines.

Stress

Dramatic increase in physical or mental stress can cause headaches. Danish scientists have found that most people who suffer from migraines report that headache attacks occur during a stressful period. Some people feel pain immediately after a stressful event, and some even during a stressful situation.

Lack of sleep or ” jet leg ”

Changes in sleep patterns are the most common factor affecting migraines. This includes insufficient sleep, poor quality sleep, a change in the time zone that causes the so-called jet lag… Insomnia also causes chronic migraines, research has shown. Food

Certain foods can cause headaches. In fact, research has shown that food is responsible for migraines in as many as 60% of people. Some of the foods that should be avoided if you suffer from migraines are alcohol, chocolate and caffeine, since these are the most common triggers of headaches. Other foods associated with migraines are cheese, artificial sweeteners, food additives, fermented or pickled vegetables, due to the high amount of the amino acid tyramine.

Excessive medication consumption

Certain medications, such as analgesics, can cause headaches. This is especially noticeable in people who have chronic migraines. The more painkillers you use, the longer the migraine will be and the more intense it will be. It is not known why this is happening.

Smells

Some people get migraines because of strong or unusual smells, and most often they are perfumes. Also, people who suffer from migraines are not tolerant of odors during headache episodes. Avoid using perfume, food odors and tobacco smoke.

Bright light and loud sounds

In people suffering from migraines, these are also triggers for headaches. The advice is to wear a hat, cap and sunglasses when you are outside. To sleep more, avoid being in direct sunlight and to darken the bedroom and avoid noise when you feel a migraine.

Changes in weather

A sudden drop or rise in temperature can affect migraine. It is not yet known why.

Female hormones

Women suffer from migraines more often than men, and research has shown that female hormones are responsible for this. That is why some members of the fairer sex experience headaches in PMS, during and / or after pregnancy.
