One of the greatest MMA fighters of all time will be competing in a boxing match against a controversial YouTube star. It is a true clash of styles that could result in fireworks. What will happen when Anderson Silva faces off against Jake Paul?
The fight will take place at Gila River Arena in Phoenix on Saturday, Oct. 29.
Silva, 47, made his MMA debut in 1997 and joined the UFC in 2006. He beat Chris Leben via knockout in his UFC debut and then beat Rich Franklin to win the UFC middleweight title. He lost the title to Chris Weidman at UFC 162, which started him on a 1-7 skid (with one no-contest) to end his UFC tenure. Injuries and age affected his career. Silva’s last fight was a TKO loss to Uriah Hall in October 2020. He was later released from his UFC contract.
Silva previously competed in a boxing ring in 1998 and 2005, going 1-1. He returned in 2021 to beat Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in Mexico. In September 2021, Silva knocked out former MMA fighter Tito Ortiz in the first round. He fought Bruno Machado last May in an unscored bout.
“I think that everybody knows this fight is amazing. It is not just for the MMA community,” Silva said at the pre-fight press conference. “This show is for every single person to come to this city and watch. It’s not about that I’m representing the MMA community, it’s about doing the big show and the best show for everybody in this city … I think age is but a number, I think my experience is going to help me a lot to do my job inside the ring.”
