Twice before, Ian White reached the quarterfinals of the World Grand Prix. He didn’t seem to be able to do that this year, because against Darius Labanauskas he was 0-2 behind after six legs. The Englishman therefore even had to fear a whitewash.
‘Diamond’ however managed to raise itself. He managed to raise his level and got the crowd behind him by winning the third set 3-1. With the same numbers, the fourth set also went to White, so that the score was again completely equal. The first leg of the final set went to the Lithuanian, but thanks to a handsome 136 finish, White tied the score again. The Englishman took the lead for the first time in the game a leg later, but again it was tied. A decisive leg was needed to arrive at a winner and with his first dart for the match White struck mercilessly.
Ratajski convinces again
In the first round, Krzysztof had surprised Ratajski by beating Nathan Aspinall and in the second round he had to deal with an Englishman again, as Rob Cross was the opponent. The Pole didn’t seem impressed by the former world champion, because he had already won the first set 3-0. The second set also ended in 3-0, but this time it was Cross who won.
In the third set, ‘The Polish Eagle’ immediately took the lead again and it was no longer available. He won 3-1 and only needed one more set to reach the quarterfinals. He also took the first leg in the fourth set, after which ‘Voltage’ could only follow. However, the Englishman was unable to put pressure on Ratajski, so that the fourth set also went to the Pole with 3-1 and the result was a 3-1 victory in sets.
Clayton again very strong
The most beautiful poster of the evening was the last on the schedule, as a clash was waiting between the finalists of the Premier League. Jonny Clayton then won big against José De Sousa and immediately took the first leg. However, he had a lot of trouble getting on the board in the following legs and saw ‘The Special One’ take the set. In the second set it was the Portuguese who took the first leg, but this time the set went to Clayton.
‘The Ferret’ then again took the first set of the third set and after De Sousa missed five darts for the double, Clayton also took the second leg and via a 100 finish the third set was his. The Welshman immediately started with a break in the fourth set by throwing a finish of 100 or higher for the third leg in a row and thus decided the match. He did it in style with a 112 finish, taking him to the quarterfinals thanks to a 3-1 win.
