We’re half way through this year’s The Apprentice and the competition is heating up as the contestants fight to become Lord Alan Sugar‘s next business partner.
With the two teams going head-to-head with one another and one member ending up with being dramatically fired with the point of Lord Sugar’s finger, we then see the unfortunate individual leave the office all wrapped up as they get into their taxi for their journey home.
However eagle eyed viewers of the show have questioned why the contestants are always filmed wearing big coats and scarves when the programme is filmed during the summer months.

One fan took to social media to ask: “Why do they always leave after the firing in a coat and scarf when it’s obviously filmed in summer as the trees are green????”
Another followed with: “One of life’s mysteries. @bbcapprentice is clearly filmed in the summer – so why do the contestants who have been fired always leave in a winter coat and scarf?!”
A third added: “The fired candidate’s exit wearing a coat & scarf in the HEIGHT of summer! The leaves on the trees are a dead giveaway!”
Well there’s actually a really simple explanation behind it.
The show is indeed shot during the summer months, however the clips of the candidates walking to their taxis are all shot at the same time before the challenges begin.
Because it’s not possible to know who will be fired when, the contestants are therefore wearing different outfits to those under the coats.

The scarfs are a clever strategic accessory that hides the outfits that they are wearing underneath so that it gives the illusion they’ve just popped on their outerwear for the journey.
While their exit conversations in the taxis are filmed in the correct episode, they are told to wear the same coat and scarf that they used to film the walk out.
Since the show first aired back in 2005, many viewers have speculated how much of the set and going-ons are real.
From the receptionist always looking at the same calendar to Lord Sugar’s real offices being based in Essex, there seems to be a lot the viewers aren’t let in on.
