Earlier this year Google added the Fitbit Ace LTE to its wearables lineup as a Wear OS-powered smartwatch aimed at kids. Right now, though, the usually $230 smartwatch is available for just $170.
The Fitbit Ace LTE is, at its core, basically a Pixel Watch 2 in a new case. However, the kids-focused smartwatch is designed to allow parents to give the watch to their kids and stay connected through limited text message and calling functions, as well as encouraging kids to stay active with games that are movement-based.
When it launched, our Abner Li commented on Google’s efforts, calling it “a complete story” as opposed to Google’s usual strategy of getting hardware on the market and adding features over time.
Google’s usual strategy is to launch with a set of core features and then add more with updates down the line. By comparison, Ace LTE feels like a complete story. It has to be since the bar for something you give your kids to make sure they’re safe and healthy is so high. Frankly, it’s refreshing as a Google user. The end result is a product that tries something new with ample amounts of whimsy and versatility, even for somebody outside the target audience.
But the cost of Fitbit Ace LTE was often a sticking point for some, with the $229 cost of the wearable and the $10 monthly LTE subscription being criticized by some around the launch.
Currently, though, the hardware cost has dropped considerably.
Through the Google Store (and Best Buy), Ace LTE is currently down to $199, $30 off its retail price.
An even better deal can be found at Woot, where the Fitbit Ace LTE is being sold, brand new, for just $169. The deal is live through the next few days or until inventory is sold out.
In either case you’ll need to spend $10 on the LTE plan to set up the smartwatch, but you can use the device on Wi-Fi without that subscription if you choose as well.
Google continues to provide updates for the Ace LTE, recently including Wallet support and new games.
