Young Dolph Murder Suspects In Custody (Update)

The two suspects that were wanted for the murder of Young Dolph are now in custody.

According to Fox 13 Memphis, the U.S. Marshals said that Justin Johnson, 23, was arrested in Indiana on Tuesday around 3pm. The second suspect Cornelius Smith, 32, was also arrested and booked into Shelby County Jail, and charged with first-degree murder. He was arrested on December 9th on an auto-theft warrant that involved the white Mercedes Benz used in Young Dolph’s murder. He was extradited from DeSoto County Jail to Shelby County Jail on Tuesday.

The car was stolen during a carjacking back on November 10th, and police found the car on November 20th.

As previously reported, last week, authorities identified Johnson as one of the suspects responsible for the fatal shooting of Young Dolph, which took place on November 17th at Makeda’s Cookies. After his identity was revealed, a $15,000 reward for any information that could lead to his arrest was also announced.

Shelby County District Attorney’s Office also mentioned the social media post from Johnson’s Instagram page over the weekend where it was announced that he would be turning himself in on Monday. However, they said he never showed up.

At the time of the social media post, Johnson’s previous arrests were brought to light as well. Back in 2017, he was arrested for a triple shooting that took place at a local bowling alley. He received a five-year sentence for the shooting and was released months early. Judge Chris Craft of Shelby County Criminal Court who approved his early release said, “It’s called the Department of Corrections not the Department of Punishment.”

He is currently facing charges of first-degree murder and theft of property between $10,000 and $60,000.He also had an outstanding warrant for violation of federal release, which is related to a weapons conviction.

Smith is being charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, unlawfully carrying or possessing a weapon, employment of a firearm with intent to commit a felony, and theft of property between $10,000 and $60,000. He is being held without bond.
