The Basler Fasnacht should take place in March if possible: the Young Guards are demanding this in an open letter to the government.
After the postponement of the Laaferi and the Official Bryysdrummle and Pfyffe, the Young Guards of the Basel Carnival cliques write a joint open letter to the Basel government. In it, they criticize the fact that too little consideration is given to children during the pandemic, as reported by “bz Basel” .
In the letter, the Young Guards also complain that the pre-Carnival events involving children can be carried out under the already strict measures taken by the Federal Council. However, the additional cantonal tightening with the 2G-Plus rule for children would have made this impossible.
Participation not possible due to 2G
The letter criticizes that vaccination for children from the age of five has only been possible since January 5, 2022 – since the certificate was only issued after the second vaccination, the Participation on the stage or a visit as a spectator is not possible for the target audience.
Such events are important for the Binggis, emphasize the representatives of the young guards. The cliques would have to organize internal events for their boys. But that is not reasonable for the children, because participation is not actually allowed and is only possible with the goodwill of the police.

One hopes that in future decisions, also regarding the carnival on March 7th, the children and the carnival culture will be taken into account. After two years of no prospects, a Morgestraich and making music at the “drey scheenschte Dääg” are urgently needed. The Young Guard therefore insist on carrying out the carnival from March 7th to 9th.
A carnival at the regular carnival time is essential if you want to keep the youngsters in line. The youth situation in the Basel cliques is very meager: More and more young people are stopping, and new registrations are hardly to be thought of. The Young Guards urge the government to stand up for the regional cultural heritage within the scope to which it is entitled and thus make the carnival in March possible.
