YouTube Rewind is officially cancelled

YouTube recently announced that its annual recap video, YouTube Rewind will be gone for good — there won’t even be one this year.

YouTube Rewind started 10 years back and each year, the video will recap the trending events, memes and big moments that happened on YouTube.

YouTube Rewind was a huge disappointment in 2018

YouTube Rewind 2018 was the most disliked video on YouTube of all time — it missed out on several important creators and viral trends and instead focused on mainstream celebrities.

In 2020, YouTube did not release a Rewind video as it didn’t see appropriate due to the sudden COVID-19 pandemic.

This year, YouTube confirms the end of Rewind as they believe a single video is no longer enough to “reflect the full breadth” of YouTube creator community.

Thank you to all the creators involved in Rewind – we’ll be 👀 for your Rewinds as we refocus our energies on celebrating you and the trends that make YouTube 🔥 with a different and updated kind of experience – stay tuned! → https://t.co/kI69C24eL0

“We’re excited to pass the baton to creators to give each creator community the space to celebrate the YouTube that’s most important to them,” said YouTube.

It’s not as if creators weren’t already doing that; thanks to the unimpressive 2018 YouTube Rewind, creators like MrBeast, PewDiePie and NigaHiga started their own versions of Rewind.
