The American platform is looking for a leader specializing in podcasts in order to “organize” its offer.
Podcasts are definitely on the rise. Spotify , in particular, has invested heavily in this sector and is already reaping the benefits by preparing to overtake the industry leader, Apple Podcasts. This phenomenon was already growing strongly before the start of the pandemic, and it still continues to attract en masse content creators and advertisers.
In this sector, it will be necessary to soon to count on a new juggernaut: YouTube . As Bloomberg notes, the platform is indeed looking for a specialist manager in this audio format in order to develop its podcast offer.
Admittedly, YouTube already lists many podcasts, but these are necessarily accompanied by a video or are found mixed to other video content. This future leader of the podcast section of YouTube will therefore be responsible “to organize and manage the millions of podcasts that already exist on the site” , explains Bloomberg.
What about Google Podcasts? YouTube’s investment on the podcast sector is good news, but that was to forget that Google already offers a dedicated platform, simply called Google Podcasts. The Mountain View firm would therefore find itself managing two competing offers, with the risk that one would end up absorbing the other. Despite everything, this remains very good news for content creators who have a large community on YouTube and wish to embark on the podcast adventure, without venturing on other platforms where everything remains to be done.
YouTube is not the only one looking into this sector. While Spotify and Apple remain the leaders in this format, Amazon and Facebook are also planning to invest heavily in it. The social network founded by Mark Zuckerberg should soon welcome a section dedicated to listening to podcasts.
