Yunus Musah’s long wait to earn his first AC Milan start came to an end on Saturday with the American midfielder playing a key role in a shutout home victory.
Musah started and played 90 minutes in AC Milan’s 1-0 triumph over Hellas Verona, a positive result after last week’s Milan Derby loss to rivals Inter.
The 20-year-old won eight of 13 duels, made nine recoveries, two interceptions, and completed three tackles in a strong performance for Stefano Pioli’s men. Rafael Leao’s eighth-minute goal was all AC Milan needed to stay in second place in the Serie A table.
Musah came into the match with only 46 minutes under his belt as club level following his permanent transfer from Valencia this summer. However, a strong showing in a much-needed win for the Rossoneri could lead to a growing role in the coming weeks.
Fellow USMNT teammate Christian Pulisic started and played 80 minutes in the match.
“It’s a good group, from day one they welcomed me well,” Musah said postmatch about the positive treatment he has received since joining AC Milan. “There are very good and down-to-earth players, they helped me a lot.”
AC Milan faces Cagliari and Lazio in its final two matches of the September schedule.
