Zendaya Confirms That 2010s Bushy Bangs Are Back in 2025

Zendaya proved that you can’t enter a new phase without a change of look.

Days after showing off her engagement ring on the Golden Globes red carpet, she attended a screening of her film, Challengers, where she was seen with long, deep chocolate-colored hair and thick bangs. As the hundreds of videos on TikTok and Instagram prove, the decision to add bangs to a look is not one that is taken lightly, but there are times that warrant the risky change, and her engagement to actor Tom Holland is definitely one of them.

The 28-year-old actor was in Los Angeles for the presentation of Challengers, where in addition to wearing a black leather outfit with a Dior leather jacket by John Galliano, she surprised everyone by revealing a new long hairstyle, which she wore in a high ponytail. However, what caught the most attention—besides her new ring—were the thick bangs she debuted.

If the style seems familiar to some, it’s because it was one of the most popular of the 2010s, though Zendaya’s long face-framing strands add a fresh touch to the look.

The thick bangs align perfectly with the spring-summer 2025 trending cuts and show a clear inclination toward retro-essence styles from the 2010s. And the thing is, thick bangs are nothing new for the Emmy winner, since years ago—more specifically in 2014—she was one of the figures who wore them with very high buns (yes, that hairstyle that had thousands of YouTube tutorials to achieve a casual or perfectly structured version). And while it is true that a lot has changed since then, Zendaya’s ability to wear this type of bangs is not one of them.

Zendaya wasn’t the only one to fall for the charm of thick bangs. Miley Cyrus, during her final stage as Hannah Montana, gave a twist to the character—and to her own look—by adding more hair to her bangs, giving them a fuller, heavier appearance. In this particular case, you can see the transition that began in the 2000s to the next decade—after all, celebrities are always one step ahead. Thick bangs were also important for Kim Kardashian, who preferred to wear them to accentuate her look and frame the upper part of her face, giving her a more mysterious appearance.

Those of us who lived through those years know that you couldn’t escape thick bangs like these, and from the looks of it, Zendaya won’t be letting it happen this season either. Anyone else ready for a fresh start?
