１７日に行われた北京オリンピックのフィギュアスケート女子フリーで、ドーピング疑惑の渦中にいるカミラ・ワリエワ（ＲＯＣ＝ロシア・オリンピック委員会）にミスが相次いだ。自身の持つ世界最高点を４３・３６点も下回る１４１・９３点。フリーだけなら５位と、「絶望」との異名を取る美しい演技は全く見られなかった。首位だったショートプログラム（ＳＰ）の貯金をはき出し、合計でも４位に転落、坂本花織（シスメックス）にも抜かれ、メダルすら逃した。
フリーは、２種類の４回転ジャンプを３度跳ぶ、今大会の団体の時と同じ構成を予定していた。
しかし、７本のジャンプのうち出来栄え点でプラスの評価を得たのは２本のみ。二度の転倒に加え、手をついたり、バランスを崩したりと、５本のジャンプを失敗するなど、疑惑の影響は隠せなかった。
演技後には手で顔を覆い、得点を見て固まってしまった１５歳は、絶望感に襲われていた。
