国際水連は1日、福岡市で5月に開催が予定されていた世界選手権を来年7月14～30日に延期したと発表した。
新型コロナウイルス感染拡大による影響で選手、関係者の渡航が見通せず、大会組織委員会などと協議を続けていた。当初は2021年夏の開催予定だったが、東京五輪の延期に伴い、今年5月に再設定されていた。
大会は選手や関係者約2400人、観客約50万人の来場を見込み、仮設プールを設置するマリンメッセ福岡を主会場に競泳やアーティスティックスイミング（AS）、飛び込みなどを行う。
23年11月にドーハで予定されていた世界選手権は、福岡大会の約半年後の24年1月に実施する方針。（共同）
