2023 launches for World Triathlon Development and Education

The 2023 World Triathlon and Continental event calendars are set, providing great planning opportunities with World Triathlon Development and Education projects throughout the year. The Continental Confederations are busy finalising their projects, based on the annual development grant awarded to each continent by World Triathlon. January was the month for reviewing and evaluating achievements and results of 202, assessing and releasing certification outcomes, launching revalidation courses to maintain certifications for the future and updating educational and course resources. in alignment with new studies, updates, rules, regulations and case studies. World Triathlon looks forward to ongoing and continued collaboration and cooperation with all our members.

Coach Education
Finishing off with 2022 TRI L1 & L2 Coaches E-courses in Americas

2022 Americas Triathlon – World Triathlon Coaches Level 2 E-Course (English)
During Q4 of 2022, the successful participants of the 2022 World Triathlon Coaches Level 1 Bridging Course for English-speaking Caribbean Coaches advanced and completed a fully online Level 2 course. As there were some available spots, this course was also opened for coaches from Africa and Europe based on time zone considerations. The course was facilitated by Jonah Camps (TTO) and Claudia Beristain (MEX).  We have a total of 10 coaches who completed the course and got certified on Level 2.

2022 Americas Triathlon – World Triathlon Coaches Level 1 E-Course (Spanish)
The course kicked off on 17 October 2022 and concluded just recently, on 23 January 2023.
The course was Facilitated by Claudia Beristain (MEX), Rodrigo Milazzo (BRA) and Vicent Beltran (ESP). Out of the 41 enrolled candidates coming from 14 Latin-American NFs 22 have graduated and got an invitation to the class’ final online celebratory meeting on 30 January, where the following steps on the World Triathlon Coaching Pathway were also discussed in detail. Continues Professional Development (CPD) courses, Development Camps, and annual revalidations are all there for coaches to keep on learning and growing and become eligible to take the World Triathlon Coaches Level 2 Course after spending two full years actively coaching on Level 1 and gaining hands-on experiences.

Revalidation
2023 Certification Revalidation of Coaches (CRoC) has started. It is time for certified coaches to maintain their status and gain their TRI L1 or L2 Coach Badges for 2023. The revalidation tasks are accessible on the Education & Knowledge Hub between 1 February and 31 March. NEW: Expired Coach Certification Revalidation Opportunity from 11 February
From 2023 World Triathlon continuously provides a revalidation opportunity to coaches who previously benefited for free from the World Triathlon Coach Education, but for various reasons, they could not maintain their certification. The successful completion of the fully online revalidation e-course on the World Triathlon Education & Knowledge HUB will bring them back to the World Triathlon Coaching Pathway. These opportunities are pay-based that can be covered by individuals or their respective National Federations. The total amount of these e-courses will be reinvested in TRI Coaching Education.

2023 Stockholm World Triathlon Para Triathlon Classification National Course
After three years of silence Para triathlon Classifiers’ education returned to business in January. With the funding of the Swedish Triathlon Federation and Triathlon Finland,  Stockholm hosted a national-level Para Triathlon Classifiers course between 19 and 21 January. This was the first time that Eric Angstadt (ESP), Para triathlon Senior manager and Katerina Magkou (GRE) Head of Classification could test out the newly designed course that went through an intense assessment, revision and update last year.  For more details, please visit the website.

Launch of the Para triathlon Classifiers Revalidation process
This year, the first time ever certified Para triathlon Classifiers are offered to complete a revalidation process in order to maintain their current status. The online revalidation requires reading, task completion and video watching on the Education & Knowledge Hub, followed by a two-hour live webinar and assessment. With the revalidation process implementation, Para Classifiers are joining World Triathlon Technical Officials and Coaches who have already been part of a similar process in order to make sure that TRI-certified people are up to date with the latest studies, science, technology, rules and regulations, etc. and keeping continuous professional development and learning as their priority.

2023 Technical Education Advisory Group Meeting, Lausanne
Following the revision and updates of the World Triathlon Competition Rules in 2022, the Technical Education Advisory Group (TEAG) gathered once again in a hybrid meeting   from 27 January to 2 February. The primary goal of this meeting is to review the Technical Education program and to review all the materials used for the different levels of education initiatives.
The working group consists of several World Triathlon staff and World Triathlon Technical officials/ facilitators:

World Triathlon Sports Department and Development Department want to thank all these individuals for the work achieved. It is great to see the development of the Technical Officials’ education program moving parallel with the development and the needs of our sport. It was another great step towards strengthening one of the most important assets of World Triathlon; the Technical Officials’ education program.

Development Regional Cup
After the evaluation and assessment of the World Triathlon Development Regional Cup events in 2022, World Triathlon updated some important elements of the concept in order to better serve its aim and objectives.

National Federation Services: Open Hours
World Triathlon Development and Education will commence the National Federation Open Hours Series in February. After the success of the inaugural National Federation Open Hours in 2022, World Triathlon continues the bimonthly virtual meetings to inform, update and engage the National Federations and facilitate dialogues among the members and TRI. The first edition of the year 2023 will take place on 15-16 February and the theme is Media & TriathlonLive, and Anti-doping Education.
