Steve Bruce indicates what will and won’t make him quit Newcastle United job

Steve Bruce has once again been asked if he will resign as Newcastle United Head Coach.

Once again Steve Bruce has said no, he isn’t going to resign.

After a disastrous opening to the season, not a single win in seven games despite a generous set of early fixtures, Steve Bruce says that he keeps getting asked the same question but the answer is the same…’I am not walking away’.

In the past when he has given this answer, Newcastle United fans have pointed out that many times in his management career, Steve Bruce has walked away from jobs, often forcing his way out of clubs.

This time Steve Bruce actually giving his guide as to when he will and won’t walk away.

Bruce stating that’ it is not in my make up to quit now because it is a bit noisy’, a reference to the Newcastle United fans who are calling for him to go because he is such a liability.

Whereas when he has happily walked away in the past, Steve Bruce justifies it in the following way: ‘I have quit before to maybe get another job…’

Indeed, Steve Bruce has made rather a habit of it throughout his career, willing to drop his current club in the brown stuff if getting a better offer elsewhere, whereas when he has made a total mess, he has repeatedly clung on for dear life to ensure he gets the sack and subsequent big pay-off.

Mike Ashley was looking for his latest patsy / stooge in July 2019 after forcing out an ambitious Rafa Benitez, ending up choosing a desperate Steve Bruce whose last three jobs had been managing in the Championship.

Not a single other Premier League club would have entertained the idea of Steve Bruce as their manager back in July 2019, yet Mike Ashley actually paid compensation to land him and his coaching team, a reported £6m paid to Sheffield Wednesday.

The Sheff Wed owner and the club’s fans disgusted that Steve Bruce forced his way out of Hillsborough after only six months and the fact they’d treated him so well.

Moving forward 26 months, Steve Bruce has made clear that his philosophy is only to walk away from a club if he gets a better offer elsewhere.

The message to all Newcastle fans is that we will never be rid of him unless he is sacked, because there is zero chance of any Premier League club coming in for Steve Bruce, never mind one that is a better proposition than Newcastle United.

Even that run of only two wins in twenty one games over a four and a half month period last season, wasn’t enough to make Steve Bruce accept he had to resign.

With no wins in seven and only seven wins in the last thirty six Newcastle matches, the statistics are getting ever worse again. The big question then is when, if ever, even Mike Ashley will realise he has to sack him.

Steve Bruce asked after seven games without a win, if his position is still that he won’t quit – 1 October 2021:

“Yes, absolutely, 100%.

“I keep getting asked the same question and I keep telling you…I am not walking away.

“I have quit before to maybe get another job…but it is not in my make up to quit now because it is a bit noisy.

“It is not even on the agenda.

“We haven’t won a game yet and whether you are manager of Newcastle or anybody in the Premier League, then the words ‘under pressure’ come very quickly.

“That is what we all face in this league, I am not alone in that, there are two, three, four points separating the bottom half of the division again, so we are not alone in it.

“The reassurances that I had, really helped last year after Brighton , the club [Mike Ashley] coming out and making that stance, that my job was secure, but I can’t take that for granted.

“I’ll get on with the job as best I can.

“I think we have played well of late.

“The performances have been decent.

“We have got to keep those levels and more importantly, win a match, win a couple of matches if we can, let that noise quieten down a bit.”
