World Cup winner Messi set for talks over PSG future

It has been a month since the World Cup final in Qatar, where France and Argentina played out one of the most thrilling matches in the competition’s history.

Lionel Messi ultimately guided Argentina to victory, securing the only trophy that had previously eluded him throughout his illustrious career.

The South American side were pushed all the way by France, though, who cancelled out Argentina’s two goal lead with a quick-fire brace from Kylian Mbappe in the second half.

The game therefore went to extra-time, during which both Messi and Mbappe – teammates at club side Paris Saint-Germain – both scored once again.

Penalties then followed, and it was Argentina that were victorious, with Messi winning the Golden Ball award for his efforts.

Since then, both Messi and Mbappe have returned to action with PSG, although things haven’t quite gone to plan.

The French champions have lost two of their last three Ligue 1 games, including a 3-1 defeat to Lens earlier this month.

Messi is set to be out of contract at Les Parc des Princes in the summer, and speculation has been building around his future, with a move to Saudi Arabia touted as a possibility.

Messi scored twice in Argentina’s World Cup final win over France

Now, though, it appears that the Argentine will remain in the French capital.

According to Fabricius Romanthe player will soon begin talks with his current employers over a new deal.

He has also rubbished rumours that Messi was offered a move to Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal, claiming that no discussions have taken place.

Instead, Messi is expected to extend his stay with PSG.

The 35-year-old joined the Ligue 1 giants from Barcelona back in 2021, having scored more than 670 goals for the Spanish club.

Since arriving in Paris, he has continued his fine form, netting 24 goals in 55 games across all competitions, as well as providing 29 assists.

Romano claims that the player will soon hold meetings with cub officials in a bid to reach an agreement over a contract extension.
