Leicester City 4-1 Tottenham: Match report, player ratings, fan reaction and more

Match report

A nightmare afternoon for all associated with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday ultimately culminated in the Lilywhites’ top-4 hopes being dealt another considerable blow, by none other than Leicester City.

Spurs, of course, marked their return to action a short time ago.

With confidence brimming in the camp fresh off a hard-fought downing of champions Manchester City, the capital giants – boosted by the return of head coach Antonio Conte – made the trip to the King Power Stadium, hopeful of making it a quarter of successive victories across all competitions.

And such hopes appeared very much intact, upon Rodrigo Bentancur opening the game’s scoring inside the opening quarter of an hour on Saturday.

Leicester, however, had altogether different ideas in mind.

First, the Foxes pulled level midway through the first-half, when Nampalys Mendy drove a stunning effort beyond the clutches of Fraser Forster, and into the roof of the net:

A needless surrendering of possession then opened the door for Leicester to turn the clash on its head just minutes later, on this occasion James Maddison slotting home in style after being laid on by Kelechi Iheanacho:

With proceedings on the stroke of the interval, hitman Iheanacho then turned goalscorer himself, squaring up Eric Dier to slot a pinpoint finish into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.

And an altogether miserable day for Tottenham was finally complete just inside the closing ten minutes at the King Power, when it was Harvey Barnes’ turn to pick out the bottom corner, putting the finishing touches on a 4-1 final scoreline.

Fan reaction & key stats

Am I going to take the side of players like Dier, Davies, Tanganga and Forster, and Levy for putting Conte in a position where he has to play a backline worth less than £20m? Or am I siding with Conte who’s won everywhere he’s been, including as recently as 2021 (not a dinosaur)?

Rodrigo Bentancur has now scored more Premier League goals for Tottenham this season (5) than he scored in all competitions with any other club throughout his career (4).

Embarrassing goal to concede. But didn’t Levy said he aims to give our manager the best players possible…

Forster, Davies, Dier, Tanganga is Championship level

“Another manager would get more out of this squad” ……

That statement could be valid of course but it’s also what Spurs have said yearly since November 2019 when Pochettino was on the brink.

3.8 – 128 goals have been scored in 34 Premier League matches between Leicester and Tottenham, with the average of 3.8 per game the highest such ratio among fixtures to be played more than 20 times in the competition. Bedlam. pic.twitter.com/eby7AkIoZy

Absolutely buzzing after that performance!!

Amazing what a difference 3 quality signings make and also having Maddison and KDH back.
Really could of been more.

Mendy was immense today, MOTM in my opinion!

I always defend Conte when I think he is unfairly criticized or misunderstood…

With that said: my biggest problem with him is in-game management and subs.

Too often too stubborn. Too late.

Could have made these changes 15-20 min ago.

I keep saying it. Sticking with the same players that should have left the club 4+ years ago is killing us. Everyone has to take a portion of the blame however the biggest portion sits with Levy/ENIC!!!#LevyOut #ENICOut
