This £20 self-watering plant pot won at Chelsea Flower Show and helps your plants thrive

Nothing makes our cosy homes feel more lively and welcoming than a well-selected assortment of indoor plants. However, keeping them on a consistent watering schedule can be quite a challenge if you’re not necessarily born with a green thumb or tend to be forgetful.

The recent Chelsea Flower Show offered a perfect solution for those of us struggling with plant care with the introduction of an innovative product; the POTR Origami Self Watering Eco Plant Pot, retailing at £20 here, which bagged the title of “sustainable product of the year” at the renowned gardening event.

This ingenious invention by POTR is the world’s first origami self-watering plant pot. Judge and Dragon’s Den celebrity Deborah Meaden was full of praise for this eco-friendly design. She said: “You can see that they’ve thought about absolutely everything sustainability was designed in [to it].”

She also added: “It’s a brilliant material that they’re using, it’s recycled, and it can be recycled again. But it looks cool, and it’s flat packed, it can go through your letterbox… I’m in” reports the Mirror.

The POTR plant pots are crafted from recycled plastic and arrive flat-packed, ready for quick and easy assembly. Once assembled, these funky pots feature a cotton cord that acts as a self-watering system, effectively allowing your plants to manage their own watering schedules.

That means no more forgetting to water your plants for weeks on end or giving them too much water, accidentally submerging them. Instead, your green friends can suck up exactly just the right amount of water they need to flourish.

One pleased customer gushed: “Great innovative pot. After using the how-to assemble video on the website I was able to construct it with ease.”

The pots also come in a variety of colours and sizes, ensuring all your plants – from newly planted seedlings to mature potted ones – can benefit from the self-watering system. They range in size from 11cm (£16) to 18cm (£24), with fun colour picks like coral, navy blue and clear, and feature the brand’s distinct origami design.

While POTR’s novel origami design is unique, there are other self-watering plant pots available elsewhere. These 20cm Self Watering Planters, priced at £21.99 here, offer a more minimalist aesthetic with their straightforward white and brown design.

One reviewer praised these as well, stating: “What a wonderful design for such a good price. They work perfectly and the plants have grown so much and become so healthy.”

However, if you’re itching to explore POTR’s line-up of eco-friendly self-watering plant pots, you can give them a look here.
