SpaceX Polaris Dawn Private Space Walk Mission Launches Tomorrow if Weather is Good

The Polaris Dawn mission will try to do the following:

High-altitude orbit: The mission will aim to reach the highest Earth orbit ever flown by a crewed spacecraft, potentially up to 1,400 kilometers (870 miles) above Earth. It is the first crewed mission to a polar orbit.

First commercial spacewalk: Crew members will attempt the first-ever commercial extravehicular activity (EVA) using SpaceX-designed EVA spacesuits.

Scientific research (numerous experiments related to human health in space) including:

Studying the effects of space radiation on human health

Monitoring for venous gas emboli to study decompression sickness

Research on Spaceflight Associated Neuro-Ocular Syndrome (SANS)

Communications testing: They will be the first crew to test Starlink laser-based communications in space

Duration: The mission is planned to last up to five days in orbit

Crew: Four crew members will participate – Jared Isaacman (Commander), Scott Poteet (Pilot), Sarah Gillis and Anna Menon (Mission Specialists)

Spacecraft: The mission will use the Crew Dragon Resilience spacecraft, which has been modified for the mission’s unique requirements

Launch vehicle: A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will launch the mission from Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Complex 39A

Fundraising: The mission aims to raise funds and awareness for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

Technology demonstration: Testing and showcasing SpaceX’s new EVA suit capabilities

The Polaris Dawn mission is designed to push the boundaries of commercial spaceflight and conduct valuable scientific research while in orbit.
