Update #2: We’re getting numerous reports (from social media and our own staff) that Currys has honoured the orders and has shipped them, rather than cancelling them. Fair play, Currys!

Update #1 : It seems that adding the game to your basket now reveals the actual price being charged for the upcoming game, £49.99. Sad faces all round. It remains to be seen if the orders of the people who managed to snag it for just £26.99 will be honoured.

Original Story: If you’re in the UK and you’ve thus far managed to resist the siren call of a Metroid Dread pre-order ahead of its 8th October release date, you might want to check out this excellent deal from retailer Currys / PC World.

There are no fancy pre-order bonuses or statues or stickers included with this one, but you will apparently get a physical copy of the Metroid Dread for just £26.99.

Is this some sort of mistake or perhaps a calculated loss leader to get you flocking to the site? We couldn’t say [YES WE CAN — SEE THE UPDATE ABOVE — IT WAS LIES, ALL LIES!!], but it’s tough to argue with that price for a brand new first-party Nintendo game on launch day.

Let us know below if you’ve placed an order with Currys. For anyone outside the UK, feel free to check out our Metroid Dread pre-order deals page for the best offers we could find elsewhere:
