Sony Pictures has pushed back the release date for its Marvel Comics-based vampire film “Morbius” starring Jared Leto.
Previously scheduled to open on January 28th, the film will now hit theaters in IMAX and large formats on April 1st, and marks just the latest in a string of delays for the film which was originally slated to be released back in July 2020.
While the surge in the Omicron variant of COVID-19 is expected to be responsible for multiple delays in the next few weeks, another reported factor is the ongoing gargantuan success of “Spider-Man: No Way Home” with Sony wanting more breathing room between its Marvel titles.
Leto stars as Michael Morbius – a scientist suffering from a rare blood disease who attempts to cure himself but instead becomes afflicted with a form of vampirism.
Matt Smith stars as the villain Loxias Crown, while Jared Harris plays Morbius’ mentor, Adria Arjona his fiancee, and both Tyrese Gibson and Al Madrigal as FBI agents hunting him down. Daniel Espinosa directs.
