New Mustang Mach-E Taxi in NYC
Gravity

We’ve seen a few Tesla models driving around the streets of New York City with that familiar yellow coat of Taxi paint, and now those looking for a ride have another option. Forget fancy Ubers. Now you’ll be able to take a ride in a yellow Mustang Mach-E as part of Gravity’s new EV taxi fleet.

In early 2021, the NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission approved a pilot program for Gravity, a new startup that’s bringing electric vehicles to NYC. At first, it was only the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, but the company recently added a slew of Ford’s impressive Mustang Mach-E to the lineup.

While this is the first Mach-E to sport the iconic yellow color and typical Taxi logos, Gravity says it plans to add a lot more in the future. Eventually, the company’s goal is to offer nearly 50 EV taxis to those in NYC, combining the Mach-E and Tesla Model Y.

Unlike some companies that want to go all-electric, or have remote-controlled EV taxis, Gravity plans to integrate EV options into its regular fleet of gas vehicles. That way, users will have several options when it comes time to take a trip.

If you’ve ever been to NYC, you know that taking a Taxi can sometimes be a scary and thrilling experience. However, Gravity plans to ensure its passengers remain as safe as possible in something like a fast electric Mustang Mach-E. For starters, Gravity has installed “artificial intelligence cameras” that track the driver’s face and make sure they’re not distracted. Additionally, they’ll use sensors and other tools to track a vehicle’s speed, acceleration, driving maneuvers, and more to maintain safe operations.

Charging the EV fleet is another problem Gravity must overcome. Unfortunately, finding an EV charging station in NYC is notoriously difficult. As a result, Gravity has its own charging garage in Midtown Manhattan and will open more soon to keep vehicles on the road as much as possible to serve customers.

If you live in NYC or plan to visit soon, you may be able to hail an electric Mustang Mach-E to get you from A to B.
