A tribute to Alber Elbaz

The Paris Fashion Week ends with a moving show in honor of the late, great and very beloved designer Alber Elbaz.

That The finale of Paris Fashion Week this year was a touching one. It would have been Alber Elbaz’s first Paris fashion week as the founder of his own label, AZ Factory. The Israeli fashion designer died in April this year as a result of a Covid-19 infection . So it happened that 44 fashion houses and labels came together under the motto “Love brings Love” to put on a tribute show. Including none other than Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele, Fendi designer Kim Jones, Olivier Rousteing from Balmain, Louis Vuittons womenswear director Nicolas Ghesquière, Riccardo Tisci from Burberry, Dior creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri, Raf Simons, Jean Paul Gaultier, Rick Owens and Off-White founder and Louis Vuitton’s menswear director Virgil Abloh – to name just a few.

View of the collection

Jeweled satin dresses, lavish flounces, statement sleeves and strong shoulders are reminiscent of Elbaz ‘ Tenure with Lanvin, where he was Creative Director from 2001 to 2015. Others were inspired by the industry icon’s unofficial uniform for their looks. In the case of Saint Laurent, for example: a black suit, white buttons and a fuchsia bow tie. All in all a love letter to the legacy and appearance of a late designer.

Finally, model and actress Amber Valletta walked into a black baggy coat that was worn with Pa illette motifs from Elbaz’s earlier designs were embroidered on the catwalk. She leaned slightly to one side to bow, as the designer used to do. Pink confetti fell from the ceiling while “Love Train” echoed through the speakers and the models began to dance. In the spirit of Alber Elbaz.
