AD FEATURE: Christ College Brecon pupils celebrate record-breaking A Level results

Pupils at Christ College Brecon are celebrating remarkable A Level results this year, with the school achieving its highest-ever scores and a 20% increase in A* – A grades compared to last year.

Indeed, 77% of all grades achieved were A*- B and the percentage of A*- A grades awarded (60%) reflects the hard work, dedication and outstanding achievement of pupils.

Known for its academic excellence in Mathematics and Science, as well as its balanced and diverse curriculum that includes sports, creative arts, and outdoor education, Christ College pupils excelled in both STEM subjects and sport.

Highlights include Physics (100% A*- A), Maths (95% A*- A), Sport (90% Distinction*- Distinction) and Chemistry (82% A*- A).

Huge congratulations

Mr Gareth Pearson, Head of Christ College Brecon said: “I wish to extend a huge congratulations to our Year 13 pupils. These results are truly outstanding and reflect the incredible dedication and hard work of this exceptional year group.

“I couldn’t be prouder of our pupils’ achievements, and I’m deeply grateful to our staff for their unwavering support and guidance over the past two years.

“We’d like to celebrate our students not only for their impressive results but also for the meaningful contributions they’ve made during their time at Christ College.

“We believe in an all-round education, and we’ve been fortunate that so many of our Year 13 pupils embraced the opportunities here, both inside and outside the classroom.

“These experiences are invaluable as they prepare for life beyond school. I wish them every success as they embark on the next exciting chapter of their lives.”

85% of pupils secured their first-choice university destination, with courses including Dentistry, Medical Pharmacology, Law, Architecture, Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautical Engineering amongst other competitive subjects.

Delighted with his results, Sixth Form pupil Jack from Llanfrynach, who joined Christ College in 2022 on a Scholarship has earned a coveted place at Exeter College, Oxford University to study English Language and Literature.

Deputy Head (Academic) Mr Harry Mackridge said: “These results are outstanding and reflect the conscientious, diligent approach this cohort undertook during their A Level studies.

“The results are particularly impressive, with one in eight pupils securing three A* grades or more – quite the achievement in a year when national standards returned to their 2019 levels.

“We’re justifiably proud of the achievements of our 2024 leavers and wish them all the very best as these results provide a springboard to highly competitive university destinations.”

Located in the peaceful surroundings of the Brecon Beacons National Park, Christ College Brecon provides an all-round education for boys and girls, with day pupils joining from age 4, and boarding pupils from age 10-18.

The school’s excellent reputation has been highlighted by several nominations in education sector awards this year.

They were finalists in the Muddy Stiletto School Awards 2024, are shortlisted for the Independent School of the Year Awards 2024 in the Co-Educational Schools category and are nominated for the prestigious Tatler School Awards 2024.
