125 passengers out of 179 (160 adults and 19 children) on the entire plane, which flew yesterday (Wednesday) from Milan, Italy (BGY), to Amritsar, India (ATQ), contracted the corona virus.
The flight was operated by the Portuguese charter company EuroAtlantic Airways and lasted about seven hours. Upon arrival in India, as the country is considered a “high risk” destination, all adult travelers had to be checked on arrival and out of those 160 adult travelers, 125 were found positive for Corona – i.e. a rate of 78%.
Many from the passengers were surprised to know that they are positive for Corona and began to ask the authorities if the other passengers on the plane had passed pre-flight checks, and these replied that it was indeed so and the passengers all boarded the plane when they were negative.

The relatives of some of the passengers, who came to pick them up at the airport, were disappointed when they learned that their relatives were found to be positive for the virus and therefore would go into quarantine. Later, the verified passengers were put into ambulances that drove to the quarantine facility until recovery.
The flight had only one stopover in Tbilissi (Georgia), where the plane will be refueled, but it is not clear if this is the source of the infection or if anyone else, Perhaps the technical crew of the plane, boarded. Either way, Italy is one of the high risk countries for Omicron according to the EU Ministry of Health.
Some of the passengers were not happy with the results they received and created a commotion in the terminal, and some refused to enter the isolation department of any of the hospitals in the city and there were those who pressured the authorities to release them. Officials from the local health ministry tried to persuade the passengers to evacuate to the Corona ward at any of the hospitals they would like in Amritsar. Amritsar airport authorities tweeted that they have taken all necessary steps to prevent the spread of the disease.
