Regarding Baidu‘s Apollo Go and the unmanned driving industry, recent discussions have attracted widespread attention. Some netizens questioned whether there are surveillance cameras inside Apollo Go vehicles and how passenger privacy is ensured.
Regarding the issue of cameras, Apollo Go customer service replied that in order to meet testing supervision and safety requirements during the testing process, cameras are currently installed on vehicles. Unless customers request to view surveillance videos, data collection and storage will not be used.
Apollo Go is an autonomous driving travel service platform launched by Baidu Apollo. Since its launch in 2021, Apollo Go has opened passenger testing in 11 cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Wuhan, Chengdu, Changsha, Hefei, Yangquan and Wuzhen nationwide. It has also provided fully unmanned autonomous driving travel services in five cities including Beijing, Wuhan, Chongqing , Shenzhen and Shanghai.
Baidu‘s financial report shows that as of January 2, 2024, Apollo Go has provided a total of over 5 million orders for autonomous driving services to the public. Baidu stated that based on the number of completed orders by Apollo Go, the company is a leader in China’s autonomous driving market.
