Bayern Munich step up efforts to stop Alphonso Davies joining Real Madrid

Bayern Munich are prepared to increase their contract offer to left-back Alphonso Davies to try and stop him from joining Real Madrid, a report has claimed.

Davies is approaching the last 12 months of his contract with Bayern and has spent the past few months in a stand-off with the German side, whose offer of fresh terms fell short of the Canada international’s demands.

With Madrid recently reigniting their contact with Davies, BILD state Bayern are now prepared to offer the left-back a higher salary to try and convince him to put pen to paper.

After their own talks with Davies’ agent, Bayern are now ready to hand Davies €13m annually, but that still fails to meet Davies’ reported asking price of €20m per year.

New manager Vincent Kompany is urging Bayern officials to find an agreement with Davies but, as of yet, the two parties are yet to strike a deal.

Sky Sports Germany back up the claims that Bayern are pushing for Davies’ signature and add further detail on the plans for a potential replacement for the Canada international.

Should they fail to reach an agreement with Davies, Bayern are expected to try and sign AC Milan left-back Theo Hernandez, who has long been touted as the top target for the position.

Reports of interest in Arsenal’s Oleksandr Zinchenko are said to be wide of the mark as things stand.

Should Davies reject Bayern’s latest proposal, club officials are expected to try and sell the 23-year-old, but Madrid are reluctant to pay a high price for a player who could be available for free in just 12 months.

The European champions have just completed the signing of Kylian Mbappe, whose arrival on a free transfer fails to factor in a €150m signing-on bonus, which will be paid in instalments, and a €15m annual salary, and so they are unlikely to make any further significant investments without raising money first.
