Bibimbap, the Korean rice bowl with sautéed vegetables, chili paste and beef or other meat, was the most searched recipe on Google worldwide this year.
Next came Spain’s espeto or fish skewers and the Indonesian porridge called papeda.
Bibimbap searches were particularly high in India, followed by Singapore, Sweden, the Philippines and Malaysia. The surge is probably due to the popularity of Korean TV dramas, which tend to feature a lot of eating.
Korean content was also among the most-searched trends on Google. Girl band Fifty Fifty’s “Cupid” was the fifth most trending song, while Bangtan Boys member Jung-kook’s “Seven” ranked 10th.
