Bitesize Prediction: Reading vs Luton Town – 19/01/22

Competition: Championship

Market: Luton Town win

Odds: 21/20 @ 888sport

Hoping to find a route into the top-half of the Championship table, Luton will make the trip to a struggling Reading on Wednesday night.

Starting with the hosts, suffering a points deduction earlier in the season, it is fair to say that Reading are in the midst of an extended struggle. Last seen over the weekend getting hit with a 2-1 loss away at Middlesbrough, it appears that there is growing pressure on Veljko Paunović’s position. Holding just a three-point buffer over the drop zone and now in an uphill battle to extend on their Championship status, the Royals have failed to win any of their last six matchups across all formats. Crashing out of the FA Cup thanks to a stunning 2-1 loss against non-league Kidderminster, Reading were also hit with a woeful 7-0 drumming at the hands of Fulham on January 11th. Likewise, it should also be noted that Wednesday’s hosts have failed to win any of their last seven straight contests in Berkshire.

As for the visitors, last seen over the weekend putting in a hugely impressive display on home soil, there is no doubt that the mood in Luton’s camp should be at a real high. Landing an action-packed 3-2 win against leading promotion contenders Bournemouth, the Hatters have their sights set on securing another top-half finish this season. Continuing to impress under Nathan Jones, they’re also enjoying a four-match unbeaten run across all formats. Also snatching a point off of Fulham on their recent purple patch, Luton should be smelling a real chance when they make the trip to Reading on Wednesday night. Likely to still be boosted by that stunning last-gasp winner over the weekend, it should also be noted that Jones’ side were last seen on the road picking up a deserved 3-0 romp at Blackpool.
