Brazil: The player who kicked a referee in the head is accused of attempted murder

The Brazilian football player, William Ribeiro, is accused of attempted murder, who brutally kicked referee Rodrigo Crivelaro in the head , during the match between Guarani and Sao Paulo RS.

The game was stopped in the 59th minute, while the referee was taken to the hospital, by where he was then discharged.

“I decided … to accuse the player of attempted murder because in my perception of the case, there was a danger that “A fatal outcome,” the prosecutor in charge of the case told the Brazilian website UOL. The club described the incident as “one of the saddest in its history” and said it had terminated its cooperation with Ribeiro, while considering what further measures it could take.

The small club from Rio Grande, a city of about 200,000 inhabitants, about 320 km south of the state capital, Porto Alegre, plays in the 2nd division of the local championship Rio Grande do Sul.

Monday’s match was stopped and started again a day later, with Guarani prevailing 1-0.
