Tennis: Bencic also fails in Melbourne

Belinda Bencic fails at the Australian Open in the second round. The number 22 seeded Olympic champion lost 2-6, 5-7 to American Amanda Anisimova (WTA 60). For the first time since 1995, Switzerland is not represented in either the men’s or the women’s tableau in the 3rd round in Melbourne.
Bencic required lower back surgery in the second set and was visibly restricted in her movements. The preparation for the season of the 24-year-old from Eastern Switzerland was disrupted by a Covid-19 illness with a relatively high fever shortly before Christmas.
In the game, Bencic not only struggled with back pain, but also with gusty winds and a strong opponent. Although she started the game well with a break and winning the first six points, she subsequently struggled with her serve (two aces, six double faults).
Also in the second set, Bencic took the lead with a 3:2 break. After losing the following two games, the physiotherapist let her come onto the court. In fact, she never gave up and fended off two more match points on her own serve, but she couldn’t turn it around anymore.
In the 2nd round, Jil Teichmann was also the end of the line: The Swiss left-hander lost 1:6, 2:6 to number 24 seeded Belarusian Viktoria Asarenka.
General: Experts find vulnerabilities in Chinese Olympics app
(dpa) Foreign researchers have discovered security holes in the Chinese Olympics app “My2022”. Personal information could be intercepted because of a “simple but devastating vulnerability” in encryption technology in transit, researchers at the University of Toronto, Canada’s Citizen Lab warned in a report released Tuesday (local time).
Athletes and other participants in the Winter Olympics from February 4 to 20 in Beijing must be ordered by the Security authorities use the cell phone program to prevent the pandemic. This includes health data such as medical history, vaccination status, PCR test results, daily temperature measurements in the 14 days before the games, previous trips and passport details. The app also offers features such as text and audio chat, medal table, news, weather and data transfer.
A list for censoring sensitive search terms was also discovered, but according to the researchers has not been activated. Among other things, it is about Tibet, the Xinjiang region and possible criticism of the Communist Party. The researchers reported that it is unclear why the function is not activated. Such lists are often built into Chinese apps.

Last year’s winner Borussia Dortmund failed in the round of 16 in the DFB Cup. The team with the two Swiss Gregor Kobel and Manuel Akanji lost away against the second division leader St. Pauli 1:2.
For Dortmund it was the first cup defeat against a lower class in more than eleven years . In 2010/11, BVB already lost in the second round against Kickers Offenbach in a penalty shoot-out.
This time it was enough for Dortmund, who started the second half of the Bundesliga season with two wins and eight goals, not even in overtime. Outsiders St. Pauli made the preliminary decision with two goals before the break. Dortmund’s Axel Witsel scored an own goal to make it 0:2. Shortly after the break, Erling Haaland was only able to shorten it with a foul penalty.
Dortmund’s interim balance in mid-January does not read well: In the Bundesliga, the gap to leader Bayern Munich is six points, in the Champions League, they missed the round of 16 in a comparatively easy group, and now they were eliminated in the cup against a second division team.
Central defender Manuel Akanji started for the first time since his knee surgery in early December after he had made the comeback last weekend with a partial mission.

ZSC Lions – HC Davos 3:2 (3:0, 0:0, 0:2) . 7962 viewers. – Gates: 2 Quenneville (Azevedo, Krueger) 1-0, 7 Geering (Krueger) 2-0, 17 Roe (Sigrist, Marti) 3-0, 42 Nygren (C. Egli, Frehner) 3-1, 60. D. Egli (Bromé / Rasmussen excluded! / Davos without a goalkeeper, with five field players) 3:2. – The people of Zurich react to Sunday’s defeat and win against the record champions thanks to a lightning start. In the end they still have to tremble, but three early goals are enough to win.
This is how the game went: The ZSC seems to have recovered well from the annoying 0:1 overtime defeat against Zug on Sunday – at least at the beginning. Every shot is a hit, that’s roughly the motto of the starting phase. It’s 2-0 after six minutes, which means it’s over for HCD keeper Gilles Senn. He is replaced by Sandro Aeschlimann. Ten minutes later the score is still 3-0 for Zurich.
But the HCD doesn’t allow his opponents to get into pure after their lightning start relocate results management. He tirelessly tries to gain access to the game, pushing the pace and creating a lot of pressure. Ludovic Waeber in the Lions goal can excel several times. And Davos slows itself down: In the 36th minute, Andres Ambühl is sent to the shower prematurely after a check against Dominik Diem’s head – the day on which the 38-year-old receives his fifth Olympic squad ends ugly for him.
The HCD does not dream of giving up this game even without its great leader. Zurich are increasingly in trouble and can only set a few accents on the offensive. With the 3: 1 after almost 42 minutes, Magnus Nygren heralded a third third that has it all. Davos is becoming more and more self-confident, the ZSC almost always behaves like a rabbit in front of a snake, they are afraid of letting the game out of their hands and hardly move. In fact, with 38 seconds to go, Davos is still 3:2, but there’s not enough time for more.
Still waiting for his first win in the Hallenstadion: the HCD coach Christian Wohlwend.

The Zurich team achieved their third victory in the fourth season duel against the Grisons. Their coach Christian Wohlwend is still waiting for his first success in the Hallenstadion. The ZSC Lions remain on course with these three points, the 3:2 is the eighth win in the last nine games. It continues on Friday in Biel.
PS: With these words, the author says goodbye to the readership. He is now moving to the media boulevard, from where he will continue to keep an eye on the hustle and bustle of the Zurich Lions, albeit from the background. The actors come and go, what remains is the wisdom that unites us all: life without ice hockey is possible. But pointless. In this sense: It was my pleasure. All the best!
