On this occasion, President Jokowi conveyed five things related to the Myanmar crisis. The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) in a press statement on Saturday (22/1/2022) detailed these five things, including:

1. Affirming that ASEAN’s approach to Myanmar must be based on mutually agreed principles, particularly the Five Consensus Points.

2. Regrets the attitude of the Myanmar military which does not show commitment to implementing the Five Consensus Points on the occasion of Prime Minister Hun Sen’s visit.

3. Affirming that the implementation of the Five Points of Consensus cannot be linked to the Five Points Roadmap carried out by the military authorities (State Administration Council) of Myanmar.

4. The Myanmar military must provide access to the Special Envoy of the Chair of ASEAN to be able to communicate immediately with all parties in Myanmar. This communication is very important to pave the way for an inclusive national dialogue.

5. As long as there is no significant progress in the implementation of the Five Consensus Points, the decision that Myanmar is only represented by non-political representatives

at ASEAN meetings, it is important to maintain it. Minister of Foreign Affairs (Menlu)/Special Envoy of Cambodia, Foreign Minister of Brunei and Indonesian Foreign Minister and supported by the Secretary General of ASEAN to monitor the implementation of the Five Consensus Points, Jokowi has noted it and conveyed that the proposal is discussed further by ASEAN Foreign Ministers.

“President Joko Widodo agreed on the proposal to establish a Consultative Meeting consisting of the Special Envoy and Secretary General of ASEAN, the AHA Center, Myanmar authorities and UN agencies to support the distribution of humanitarian aid without discrimination,” said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a press statement.
