CAPE TOWN – A Bangladeshi businessman who was kidnapped two weeks ago in Mitchells Plain, has been released.
While the Bangladeshi community in Cape Town is relieved, they say Akthar Prodhan, the owner, of several Cash and Carry stores, has been assaulted and tortured.
He’s been hospitalised since his release on Friday.
Two weeks ago Prodhan was bundled into a car by three men.
Days later, his kidnappers demanded a ransom.
A video circulated on social media where Prodhan is seen being tortured. Western Cape police confirmed that Prodhan has been reunited with his family adding that the investigation is ongoing.
