Choked shrimp detonates Bolsonaro's popularity on social media

The president’s vacation in Santa Catarina Jair Bolsonaro (PL), while several municipalities in the Bahia suffered from the floods, made their disapproval increase.

According to data from the 63rd edition of the Survey Modalmais-AP Exata, disclosed this Friday (7), which monitors social networks, disapproval of the president reached 54%, its highest level since the beginning of the term.

The survey was carried out between January 3rd and 7th, and recorded that 54% of internet users in 145 Brazilian cities consider Bolsonaro’s management bad or terrible. In the previous survey, this percentage was 53.8%, up from 53.5% a week earlier, showing an upward curve of the president’s rejection.

On the other hand, those who think the current administration is good or great has dropped from 24.5% two weeks ago to 24.1% this week. The percentage of people who rate the Bolsonaro government as regular remained stable at 21.9%.

Hospitalization

Not even the president’s hospitalization could reverse the negative repercussions of Bolsonaro’s vacation.

“The president’s hospitalization on the first working day of the year exposed Bolsonaro to a strong wave of criticism and also revealed difficulties of government digital militancy in combating unfavorable discourse. If, in 2017, Bolsonaristas dominated the networks’ narrative, the scenario today is completely different. Bolsonaro only influences his bubble of supporters and reveals a huge difficulty in winning over internet users outside his area of influence”, highlighted the survey.

The research shows that Bolsonaro’s hospitalization reinforced the idea that he went on vacation while Bahia was facing serious flooding problems. Opponents also managed to impose the idea that the president was trying to take advantage of the internment to generate commotion, which was much rejected. “In addition, many memes emerged saying that Bolsonaro would have obtained divine punishment and ironizing that he would have obtained a certificate for not working on the first working day of the year,” added the document.

The shrimp

Bolsonaro had a peak of positive mentions on the first day of the year, after its appearance with the first -lady Michelle Bolsonaro. His hospitalization, on Monday (03), caused an abrupt drop in positive mentions that has not yet been reversed, according to the research.

The survey indicated that there were many accusations that the chief executive “committed excesses at the end of the year, resulting in health problems. “The crisis was reinforced by the news that he found it difficult to digest a shrimp swallowed whole. The reaction to attacks by opponents was also compromised by an internal war that takes place within the sphere of Bolsonarism”, highlighted the survey.
