From October 15, the so-called “comfort” tests to detect Covid-19 will no longer be reimbursed by Social Security. Until now, they were covered 100% by Health Insurance without advance payment, except for foreigners. We take stock of their cost.
Free for all, without conditions of comfort tests, it is soon over. TO from October 15 , the rules will change for reimbursement of Covid-19 screening tests. They will become chargeable and will no longer be reimbursed by Social Security, with some exceptions. Here is how much they could cost you.
Who needs to put their hand in their pocket?
For now, only people temporarily staying in France and covered by a foreign social security system must put their hand in their pocket if they do not have a medical prescription or if they are not declared as a contact case. According to Health Insurance, these people must spend 43.89 euros for a PCR test or 25 euros for an antigen.
And like The government spokesperson said in mid-September, similar prices should be applied to French people from mid-October, especially unvaccinated adults.
How much will we have to pay?
“It will be 43 euros for the PCR and 22 euros for the antigen in the laboratory, a little less expensive than in pharmacy”, affirms Lionel Barrand, president of the SNB to our colleagues of Capital. According to pharmacist Gilles Bonnefond, boss of Uspo, “the price will be the same both in the laboratory and in the pharmacy, ie 25 euros. “
In principle, only adults who are not vaccinated will have to pay to be tested , unless they present a medical prescription.
Who is an exception to these rules?
First, fully vaccinated people : “if they present symptoms, no need for a medical prescription, they will always be reimbursed by Social Security as today”, affirms to Capital Gilles Bonnefond, who participated in several meetings with the Ministry of Solidarity and Health on the subject
Then minors, even 12-17 years old who are eligible for vaccination , will not be affected by the paid tests. It remains to clarify another scenario, that of adult students in the event of a cluster in National Education or in education.
In Europe, the prices of a PCR test vary from 40 to 190 euros. For example, the average price of PCR tests is in Spain around 100 euros, in Italy 70 euros, in Germany between 80 and 150 euros.
Denmark remains the last country with France to maintain free PCR tests in all cases. In the UK, the test is free for symptomatic people, while others cost between 50 and 350 euros.
