Cuauhtémoc Gutiérrez de la Torre, the 'garbage czar', is arrested on charges of trafficking

The Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City announced on Wednesday night the arrest of Cuauhtémoc Gutiérrez de la Torre , after a search carried out by the Investigative Police of the same institution, in the mayor’s office of Tlalpan.

Gutiérrez de la Torre, also known as the “garbage czar,” is accused of human trafficking and sexual exploitation, the Prosecutor’s Office said on his Twitter account. The search warrant was requested by the Public Ministry of the Gender Crimes Investigation Coordination. “Intelligence work coordinated between the Prosecutor’s Office for the Investigation of Trafficking in Persons, the National Intelligence Center and the Special Group for Reaction and Intervention allowed the seizure of said person,” added the Prosecutor’s Office on the social network. Gutiérrez de la Torre, former president of the PRI in Mexico City, has been accused since 2014 of managing a human trafficking ring using money from the party’s finance secretariat. When announcing the arrest, the prosecution stated that “Cuauhtémoc“ N ”is presumed innocent and will be treated as such in all stages of the procedure as long as his responsibility is not declared by a ruling issued by the judicial body Article 13 CNPP”
