Detty December: Are We Staying In Or Going Out?

Detty December

Before we begin, let us just say that if you choose to stay home, we understand, as we would also be in the comfort of our beds updating you about the outside world this Detty December.

We are a few days from December, the last month of 2023. Piggyvest and Cowrywise are begging us to save some of our funds, but will we listen? No.

We’ve all spent 11 months thugging it out on the streets as we work day and night to make ends meet. No one said adulting would be this difficult, but as we get coconut head and we no dey hear word, we’ve all decided to wear our crowns no matter how heavy they may be.

As we all know, with the arrival of December comes the most anticipated time of the year—Detty December.

With so many events packed within the 31 days, from company hangouts, celebrity parties, clubs, concerts, festivals, and many more, you know it’s never a dull moment to step outside with your family, friends, and lovers during Detty December but this is only if and when you have money.

This post is not to discourage you from having fun this December but to let you know that even if you decide to stay home with the family for whatever reason, it’s still valid, and you don’t need to feel pressured into going over and beyond to make your December detty.

Nigeria isn’t smiling on anyone, but that is not to say that you don’t deserve to make yourself happy regardless of the amount of shege you’ve seen.

Personally, a chilled bottle of red wine, some good old-time Christmas movies, and a nice deep-fried chicken placed on our mouth-watering fried rice with salad sounds like a good time (don’t blame us, please; less is more).

However, you can’t stay indoors all month, so you have us, YNaija, to rely on every weekend as we update you on events around Lagos. Whatever your preferences are, we most certainly have them highlighted on our blog.

But before digressing, we have to ask, what plans do you have this coming Detty December? O.B.O has said he’s Unavailable for those of us in Lagos State, and we’re ready to fight for our rights to see the Grammy-nominated artist on our stages.

Lately, we’ve been managing our hunger with the excess corn the government has fed us, and with December, it’s okay to switch things up. Sorry to our bank accounts, which will take a hit as everything in the markets will become overpriced, but the minimum wage stays the same.

We all want a good time this December, which should go without saying, but at what expense? Uber prices are nearly as expensive as a plate of Arrabbiata pasta in a fancy restaurant, and fuel subsidy removal isn’t helping matters.

In this age where it’s practically hard to save and still leave some change for enjoyment, we are left weighing our options and choosing what favours our pockets rather than what we would want for ourselves.

At this point, we would understand if anyone decided to return to their parents’ house. The cost of living is starting to cost the living.

Nonetheless, what is life if we don’t indulge in premium enjoyment once in a while? Spend that bag!
